Weighing less than 6-lbs with a compact form factor, the VariCam LT is ideal for run-and-gun indie films, but also provides a professional workflow solution for camera crews working on high-end 4K productions. With it's one piece, short body design, the VariCam LT is ideal for handheld, Steadicam, jib, crane, gimbal and drone shooting applications, as well as all types of cinéma vérité filmmaking.

The VariCam LT offers a host of new features including an EF lens mount, hot swappable batteries, IR shooting capability, a 23.98 PsF output, cinema-style file naming, and scene files.

The VariCam LT utilizes the same super 35mm 4K native sensor as the VariCam 35, but with significant reductions in size, weight and price. The camera is jam-packed with functionality in a small, yet efficient, economical camera body package. The LT body comes standard with a top handle, control panel and an EF lens mount. Additional packages with OLED viewfinders, PL lens mounts, recording media and other options are available as bundles.

Achieving precise exposure is one the most important tasks for a cinematographer since blown out highlights and/or crushed blacks is a dead giveaway for video. With the release of the latest firmware for the VariCam LT, to achieve the best possible exposure, Panasonic has teamed with cinematographer Ed Lachman, ASC to release the EL Zone System, which is an in-camera exposure map tool.

The EL Zone System has 15 delineated zones in 1 stop increments, plus -1/2 increments above and below 18% gray for setting precise skin tones. Each stop, or zone, is a solid color allowing you to identify the stop value. By showing you an entire scene exposure, it makes light level adjustments more precise.

The latest firmware for the VariCam LT adds new 1.8x and 1.5x anamorphic de-squeeze aspect ratios.

Additionally, there is now an in-camera custom aspect ratio frame marker generator that dials in just about any aspect ratio. With the rise in vertical viewing due to mobile phone video, shooters will be able to set 9 x 16 frame markings, or 1 x 1 markings to cover for both horizontal and vertical viewing. This makes shooting video for both standard and portrait/vertical video deliverables easier than ever.

VariCam LT Goes Live with Full Studio Control

CineLive is the studio-style control system for the VariCam LT, offering greater capabilities than other cinema camera or studio camera systems. The VariCam LT is the only true Cinema Production camera that also functions as a true multi-cam live event camera. With CineLive, capture the Cinematic look of the VariCam’s Super 35mm sensor and rich, natural colors, while maintaining the full control and communication of a proper live production system. Integration with the AK-HRP1000 remote control panel enables remote shading of the camera image while simultaneously allowing separate control of the internally recorded signal.

Output a shaded image while recording either a shaded or V-Log signal internally for later use. Output HD live while recording internally in 4K or HD. Monitor in SDR while outputting in HDR. The VariCam LT has two SDI outputs for HD broadcast, allowing one for a clean signal to the switcher as well as a second for monitoring camera status and menu navigation. A third output is utilized for viewfinder use at the camera. CineLive is compatible with fiber transport systems from companies such as MultiDyne and can switch between 4K & HD, SDR & HDR as your needs arrive.
