Where is the ELS Studio? Inside the all-new Acura RDX

    5 minutes

What do Zac Brown, Dave Grohl and Joe Walsh all have in common? Talent, passion, loyal fans--and they each purchased an Acura vehicle to enjoy their music on the ELS Studio premium audio system. Artists, engineers, audiophiles and enthusiasts agree that the sound they hear from ELS Studio is like nothing they have heard before.

The concept is based upon an inspired approach to system design, integration and sound tuning developed by Panasonic and the technical teams at Acura. While other in-vehicle systems focus on purely hardware solutions, ELS Studio 3D™ combines technical innovations with the artistry and emotion found in the recording studio. Going directly to those who make music enhances the system performance goals developed by the Panasonic technical teams. We and many others believe it is the most authentic approach to automotive sound in the market.

    Feeling the music

It all started with the collaboration between Panasonic and eight-time Grammy Award winning recording engineer Elliot Scheiner. Elliot’s passion has been to give listeners the ability to feel what he and artists experience in the studio. Dissatisfied with performance of what were considered the best systems on the road, the Panasonic – Elliot Scheiner team wanted to introduce listeners to the emotion and intimacy of the recording studio. This presented significant hurdles considering the challenges of engine, road and wind noise along with the need to optimize system performance while considering the design tradeoffs of cost, weight and packaging space.  The first ELS Studio systems hit the road with the 2004 Acura TL and were quickly recognized for amazing sound quality and the way the system affected the listener.

It is difficult to find an environment which is designed to move you emotionally. As recorded media shifted from the record shelf to iPods and, most recently, the cloud, technology followed to emphasize the convenience of sound at the expense of quality. Most people’s reference for sound became inaccurate headphones or small computer or Bluetooth speakers. Because of this, when people sat in a car with mediocre sound, they accepted it.

The ELS Studio premium audio system helped people rediscover their love of music. One couple that commuted together in their Acura would park and listen to music in their garage for another 30 minutes before they got out because of how much they enjoyed the sound.

    New York Auto Show premier

ELS Studio premium audio has progressed to each Acura model, with the most recent version of the system enhancing the driving experience of the Acura NSX supercar. Now the system provides a new dimension in sound with the launch of ELS Studio 3D on the 2019 Acura RDX. The goal is precision crafted audio performance featuring 16 speakers and 710 watts of power.  The ELS Studio 3D sound system that premieres with the new Acura RDX at the New York International Auto Show adds a fresh dimension in audio. It immerses listeners in sound from around and above, creating magical musical moments.

Check out details on the ELS Studio 3D sound system and other audio innovations.
