Program Details
On Thursday May 27, 2021, the Canadian federal government announced a new program called the Canada Greener Homes Grant. This program allows homeowners to receive reimbursements when retrofitting their homes with select energy-saving products, putting more money in their pockets today and lowering their energy costs in the long term. The government has committed $2.6 billion dollars over the next 7 years to helping Canadian homeowners through the Greener Homes Grants.
Before getting started, homeowners should ensure they are eligible for the program, having all the necessary documentation to prove home ownership on hand. In addition, homeowners may be eligible for reimbursement on recently completed retrofits: EnerGuide evaluations and qualifying retrofits completed after December 1, 2020 are eligible for reimbursement.
What is a Ductless Heat Pump and Why Make the Switch?
Air source heat pumps are air conditioners that can be reversed in the winter to provide energy-efficient heating. Due to their ability to both heat and cool a house, they make a great year-round solution to provide a comfortable indoor air environment.
Ductless heat pumps have earned the ENERGY STAR Most Efficient designation1, and have become very popular in Canada for their versatility, efficiency, ease of installation, and convenience.
Versatility
Mini-split systems consist of an outdoor condenser unit and an indoor unit that operates independently, so each room can be kept at a customized temperature. Multi-zone systems allow several indoor units to operate using a single condenser unit, so customized solutions can be built to meet your home’s needs.
Efficiency
A major benefit of using a ductless heat pump is the high efficiency it provides versus a traditional furnace or boiler system. Heat pumps can supply up to 5 kWh of heat for every kWh of energy consumed. Heat loss through ducting can account for 30% of a household's heating needs where a ductless heat pump experiences none of this loss2. Between its high efficiency and low heat loss a ductless heat pump can lead to significant energy savings for a homeowner.
Ease of installation
As the name suggests, a ductless mini-split system does not require any ductwork to install. This makes installation quick and easy. The condenser unit is installed outside the home, while indoor units are placed in key areas within the home.

How to Apply For the Program
Step 1: Register for the Canada Greener Homes Grant
Register online on the Ministry of Natural Resources website.
Step 2: Book Your Pre-Retrofit EnerGuide Evaluation
An NRCan-registered energy advisor will give your home an EnerGuide home rating and a renovation upgrade report. Homeowners can receive up to $600 to cover the Energy Evaluation cost.
Step 3: Find the Panasonic Heat Pump That is Right for You!
Have a licensed HVAC professional install one of Panasonic’s incentive-eligible products that is the right size for your home.
Step 4: Schedule Your Post-Retrofit EnerGuide Evaluation
Submit your post-retrofit EnerGuide results and receive up to $5,000 in incentives!
