Accelerates News Editing and Speeds Stories to Air

Be first to air in the market with automated, uninterrupted and seamless integration of content acquisition from the field to the digital media workflows of the modern newsroom.

Automated & Uninterrupted

P2 Cast is a cloud-based news production system that leverages the network features of Panasonic's AVC ULTRA camcorders with AVC-ULTRA recording. P2 cast integrates these camcorders' network capabilities so content can be uploaded to the cloud for immediate reviewing and editing. P2 Cast dramatically expedites the delivery of news to air, while at the same time providing access to content anywhere and anytime from almost any device.

Dynamic Photojournalism

For newshooters, P2 cast allows you to concentrate on shooting. There is no need to upload footage manually and no need to travel back to the station after the story has been shot. For news station personnel, you can browse and air footage immediately. And for station management, P2 Cast reduces the total cost of ownership for shortening the total time from shooting to airing the story. And P2 Cast even simplifies metadata tagging for shooters, allowing metadata either to be sent directly to the camera or via a smartphone.

Bandwidth Efficiency

A major P2 Cast advantage is its ability via the cloud to move low bit rate, yet high-quality proxy video off a camcorder in the field, create a video sequence of the desired clips and then allow newsroom systems to automatically pull back high-resolution video for air from the camera. This high bitrate video can range in quality from AVC-LongG12 through AVC-Intra Class100, depending on the preference and available bandwidth (selectable quality depends on the camera model). The proxy video codec can range from 0.8Mbps to a Full HD 6Mbps codec.

An IoT Approach to Video

In the modern day and age, connectivity is highly important in any device. Take your media based electronic news gathering (ENG) workflow to the next level with a network-based IT news gathering (ING) workflow. Access your device location, send metadata, configure a camera, and move footage all over the internet of things.

LAN Ethernet Jack

All current generation AVC-Ultra P2 devices feature a built-in LAN ethernet jack, providing a secure connection point. Connect to the network right out of the box to start utilizing the powerful network feature-set, with no external USB ethernet dongle required.

P2 Cast Bridge

P2 Cast Bridge has been the missing link in network workflows up till now. P2 Cast Bridge software lives behind the firewall of the newsroom network and mediates between P2 Cast and the host of different workflow elements that exist in a newsroom environment (NLE, MAM, Story management, etc.). From content transfer to end-to-end metadata workflow, P2Cast Bridge makes it possible!

P2 Streaming Server (P2SS)

In certain breaking news type of situations, content must be aired right away. The AVC-Ultra Network workflow offers the flexibility of near live proxy sharing or live streaming. All AVC-Ultra P2 news camcorders feature built-in QoS Streaming. The P2 Streaming Server (P2SS) is the receiver-side device which talks to the camera to receive the high-quality stream. P2SS comes in a 2 channel or 4 channel simultaneous output version with remote control and management capabilities. P2SS also works with a host of other Panasonic professional camera products including PTZ cameras and Studio cameras.

Near-Live Proxy File Sharing

Proxy files (up to 6Mbps Full HD) are transferred from the camera automatically in the background while the camera operator is shooting at a 1-2 minute near live interval. Content can be viewed and downloaded from a browser-based user interface from a mobile device or personal computer to be edited or taken straight to air.

Highlight Editing, High-Quality Image Transfer

At a station, the editor can highlight edit (in point/out point) the proxy files that have been uploaded on the cloud server, thus creating an EDL (Edit Decision List) and transfer it to the camera. Based on the EDL, the camera selects just the desired high-quality footage and transfers it back to the server.

New, Efficient Workflows Using Metadata

Cameras and cameramen are pre-assigned IDs and metadata is sent from the newsroom to the camcorders in the field. Metadata can be automatically recorded with footage shot in the field, and the data can then be used in the editing process to dramatically increase the searchability of the raw footage and shorten the time required for archiving and targeting secondary uses. With P2 Cast Bridge, metadata can be entered directly into a newsroom story management system (ex. Avid iNews) and be transferred via P 2Cast to the camera providing simple and seamless end-to-end metadata workflow.

Camera Management

With P2Cast remote camera enterprise level fleet management becomes possible.

  1. Camera Location via GPS - For cameras that support GPS, cameras location can be monitored over a map. Furthermore, camera location is a saved as metadata and can be used as a filter for searching and sorting content.
  2. Remote Firmware Updates - Maintain your fleet of AVC-Ultra camcorders and keep them updated with the latest and greatest firmware. No longer do you have to insert an SD card into each device manually.
  3. Remote Camera Configuration - Remotely configure your fleet of AVC-Ultra cameras over the network whether it is menu configuration or image parameters. Technology directors can assist a new camera operator in the field with ensuring the camera is configured properly.

P2 Cast Mobile

With P2 Cast Mobile, you can send videos taken on your iPhone directly to P2 Cast and P2SS (P2 Streaming Server). This allows you to record breaking-news moments immediately by using your smartphone while waiting for a camera crew. The video you shoot can be uploaded near live to P2cast just like proxy content from a camcorder or you can change to live streaming mode and stream directly to P2SS for airing live.
