Tina Jeffress, Group Manager for Energy and Sustainability, recently participated in a panel with other regional experts focused on issues related to sustainability. The gathering was hosted by the Kansas City Business Journal, which published a feature article highlighting the people, ideas, and insights of the conversation in late June.

Jeffress and her fellow panelists detailed how a wide range of stakeholders throughout the region—including both private and public entities—are prioritizing sustainability efforts as part of their respective growth strategies. Along the way, many are finding that these initiatives can not only be environmentally responsible, but also economically advantageous.

Among the various topics and questions raised during the event, Jeffress was asked about her future vision for the Greater Kansas City region.

“My biggest priority is that everyone is sourcing zero-carbon energy,” said Jeffress. “That it’s not even a question in terms of electricity, whether this is through solar, nuclear, or geothermal. The region offers many different types of zero-carbon energy sources.”

“We are at the start of this next phase of clean tech manufacturing,” Jeffress continued. “I hope that we become a destination for people who want to go into clean tech and STEM careers—that people think of Kansas and its universities because they want to work for a company like Panasonic. That’s where I go in terms of vision. It’s energy sourcing and workforce.”
