The progress we see at the project site in De Soto every week has been remarkable and is thanks to all our construction partners and their seamless collaboration.

In December 2022, SSOE Group was selected as the provider of primary engineering design and architectural design oversight. Industrial Project Innovation is the construction manager, and McKenzie is our architect of record. Two local general contractors – Emery Sapp & Sons and Kissick Construction Co. – will do the waterline after also working on site preparation.

In March, we announced that construction would be led by a joint venture team of the Kansas City operation of Turner Construction Co. and Nashville-based Yates Construction. Turner has such a strong local presence in the Kansas City area, and we’re excited to be working with Karen Hogan and her team.

“It is exciting to add this EV battery plant to our growing portfolio of work in this market,” said Hogan, Vice President & General Manager of Turner Construction Company. “More importantly, thousands of people from the greater Kansas City area will participate in building a project that has global impact and provide people in our community green economy jobs.”

As we progress, we are continuing to evaluate other firms for projects. Our selection of Turner-Yates has kicked off a new phase where firms of all sizes have opportunities to bid on projects as part of the construction of our new facility.

“I don’t know if you’ve had a chance to drive out by the site, but there’s a lot of steel up already now,” Carl Walton told civic leaders at the Kansas City Business Journal’s Power Breakfast in June. “It’s amazing how fast those wonderful construction workers are putting steel up. It is happening now. Every day, you go there and say, ‘That wasn’t there yesterday.’”
