“Reflecting on our journey from humble beginnings to this momentous milestone of delivering 10 billion cells is profound,” said Allan Swan, president of Panasonic Energy of North America. “Our commitment to accelerating the transition to sustainable energy through high-quality lithium-ion batteries has not only transformed Nevada but set a new standard across the United States. As we look to the future with our North American expansion, we celebrate this achievement and eagerly anticipate the continued success and innovation that lies ahead."
Since its inception in 2015, PENA has grown exponentially in Nevada. Starting with a small team, PENA has now scaled to produce 5.5 million cells a day with just 13 production lines, hitting a record of 6.003 million cells in a single day in March of this year. PENA’s achievements have paved the way for further expansion in North America. The company’s sister factory in Kansas, which is set to begin production next year, will utilize the operations framework perfected by PENA in Nevada over the past nine years.
“It’s incredible to see how far we’ve come in such a short amount of time,” said Wes Sloan, Executive Vice President of Panasonic Energy of North America. “I’ve been fortunate enough to be a part of the PENA family for five years now and witnessing our growth from 1 billion cells a year to doubling that with 2 billion a year is truly inspiring. Our journey from struggling to hit 5 million cells a day to consistently achieving 5.5 million is a testament to our team’s dedication and hard work.”
Looking ahead, PENA remains committed to pushing the boundaries of innovation in the lithium-ion battery market. The forthcoming expansion in Kansas represents just the beginning of a broader strategy to meet the growing demand for sustainable energy solutions. With a robust framework and a dedicated team, PENA is excited to lead the industry in efficiency, safety, and technological advancement. The success in Nevada sets a powerful precedent for future operations, spotlighting PENA's role as a leader in the global transition to sustainable energy.
“Having worked for Panasonic for 37 years, managing such a huge factory has been a unique and rewarding experience,” said Keisuke Matsukura, Executive Vice President, of Panasonic Energy of North America. “Today, thanks to our collective efforts and continuous improvement initiatives, we have not only met but exceeded our goals. Through the implementation of specific safety and production systems, we have drastically improved our operations, ensuring high productivity, superior quality, and the safety of our valued team members.”
